Lewis Hamilton
Now a household name and an inspiration to many
across the UK and beyond, Lewis Hamilton's motorsport career
started in 1993 when he was just 8 years old. By the age of
10 he had won his first British Karting championship. A further
four British Karting championships followed in 1996 and 1997.
At the age of 13, Lewis was talent-spotted and
subsequently signed to the McLaren and Mercedes-Benz
Young Driver Support Programme by McLaren Group Chairman and
CEO Ron Dennis. The programme, established by McLaren and
Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, provided Lewis with a long-term
contract guaranteeing financial and technical support to help
with his future motorsport care.
After winning the Formula 1 championship in
2008, Lewis Hamilton faced heavy competition for the title
of champion in the 2009 season from fellow Brit, Jenson Button,
who set the Formula 1 alight with his brilliant Brawn car,
but the last few races were very tight with Jenson just clinging
on to take the title.
For 2010 Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button became
team mates at McLaren and the Brits are enjoying a furious
battle for the championship with Red Bulls Mark Foster and
Sebastian Vettle and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Massa with
Sebastian Vettle leapfrogging everyone in the final race to
take the 2010 World Champion title and ending an incredible
year of Formula 1...
Now in 2011, Sabastian Vettle appears almost
unbeatable in his Red Bull car, but Lewis Hamilton and Jenson
Button are biting his heels in their McClaren cars... Very
interesting...
